CEOs are NOT the reason companies existCEOs are creatures of the boards of directors who select them. Other than Steve Jobs, who else on that list started the companies they run? And no, Ellison did not start Oracle; just ask anyone who worked there, and they should be easy to find as so many have been laid off over the past decade. Was Dick Cheney the CEO of Halliburton because he started that company? Look at the compensation for Sun's CEO. His income was approximately 4% of Sun's net income. Does that make sense? Is anyone who did not start a company worth that much? And yes, I have a life, thank you.

RE: What network CEOs really makeBy Anonymous on May 5, 2008, 11:47 amWow, I make more money than Steve Jobs!
Class envy and political correctness is killing us… By Anonymous on April 1, 2009, 11:28 amThe reality is that it is none of our business how much anyone in a PRIVATE company makes and the only qualifier for executives should be merit and ability to lead regardless of sex, color, etc… What’s going on today; we are on a clear path towards socialism and wealth redistribution and no one seems to care. Maybe because we had it too good and now we are trying hard to mess it up royally.
Compare this list to theBy Anonymous on May 9, 2008, 11:09 amCompare this list to the list of this country's top billionaires, and see how many of these guys are on that list. Jobs is on it, so is Dell, as os Ellison. They not only work for the company, they actually own it!
So ironicBy Anonymous on May 7, 2008, 8:51 amSo ironic that one of the CEO with the highest pay is the CEO of Red Hat the provider of Linux and open source technology supposedly free.
Red Had Linux is opensourceBy Anonymous on May 12, 2008, 4:13 pmRed Had Linux is opensource and free they make their money in support contracts supposedly you are mistaken
ick. it makes me sick. theseBy Anonymous on May 7, 2008, 1:42 amick. it makes me sick. these sleazebags are cutting benefits and pocketing millions. plus, not even a 'token' woman ceo profiled? what a sick society we live in.
Why are you surprised thereBy Anonymous on May 9, 2008, 9:18 pmWhy are you surprised there are no women CEO's in this list. The title of the article is Network CEO's. How many women do you actually see in the tech industry compared to men? Maybe 1 in 10, I would guess 1 in 30 on a good day. Also, you also noticed most of these CEO's listed founded these tech companies Women are basically absent from the math/science/tech industries. I blame the school system and society on that, not because women are by any means inferior. Posters on this blog complain about the CEO's compensation. Try starting a company of your own and see how it changes your tone. It's easy to be an employee. Try being an employer! A successful one at that.
This is not very goodBy Anonymous on May 6, 2008, 1:12 pmThis is not very good journalism. For example, Steve Jobs' formal 'salary' compensation may be $1, but he gets lots of other compensation, including use of a corporate jet (worth tens of millions) and stock options. I'll tell you what: I'll trade my salary worth hundreds of thousands more than his for his 'other compensation!'
Obscene Compensation for basic responsibilitiesBy Anonymous on May 6, 2008, 10:07 amIt's a such a shame that when the common working man is going through multiple whammies like mortgage crisis, unrealistic gas prices and food shortages, corporate America can still afford to hire such obscenely paid executives who do one thing best and that is cut costs and take home unimaginable amounts of money when flying to their vacation homes in company paid/owned corporate jets. How many CEOs do you know who give up their bonuses and corporate jets when their companies are being run into the ground. I say, abolish the CEO position and use the money to retain the hard working people.
You are truly an ungratefulBy Anonymous on May 9, 2008, 9:23 pmYou are truly an ungrateful moron. Cut the leadership of a company and give the money to the workers....idiocy. CEO's are the reasons companies exist. You have obvioulsy never done more than hide in a cube most of your career complaining about everybody else and how they are responsible for your problems. Get a life. Try starting and running a company and then fire yourself because your ingrate employees think the company you started and slaved over could do better without you.
