RE: 20 cool third-party iPhone apps By Anonymous on July 11, 2008, 9:59 pmSo many lovely apps ... too bad I won't be able to use the iPhone, at least not until: 1.] It is not locked into ATT's network which has terrible coverage in wilderness areas near my home - contrast this with Alltel/verizon, which has perfect coverage 2.] It has a user-replaceable battery ( this is essential because I am often in the wilderness for many days with no way to recharge my phone; I often bring 3 spare batteries with me) Steve
I think the iPhone is notBy Jeep79 on July 14, 2008, 2:32 pmI think the iPhone is not for everyone. It's still a gadget with some new tools to make it more "usefull" to the Suits. I have the, now first gen, iPhone and I've come to grips that it's not a work tool but more of a fun device that I can call or text my friends when ever I want to.
I also like to go camping and spending time in the wildernes, but for communication, in case of an emergency, I would recommend a CB radio or even take it a step further and go with a HAM radio, (be sure and get your license first). This way, if you are out in the wild, you could still reach civilization when needed.
I'm sure that ATT will eventually ramp up their coverage, if they are not doing so already, and tying up a contract with them only, I really don't think it's a bad thing. You're gonna be tied to someone reagarless, might as well have some fun while your doing it.
