Microsoft touts 'browser with no name' in Windows Phone 7

At its MIX Web developer conference this week Microsoft had little to say about the unnamed browser in Windows Phone 7, even as it trumpeted a limited "preview" release of desktop Internet Explorer 9. The mobile Web browser featured on Windows Phone 7 devices will be a "vast improvement" over the browser currently running on existing Windows Mobile 6.5 devices.

    A recent survey of 923 IT professionals showed that 87% of those polled plan to deploy Microsoft's latest operating system, Windows 7. Yet the same survey conducted in January 2010 also revealed that close the three-fourths plan to make the move manually, using free tools such as the ones provided by Microsoft.

    So what's the latest on the case that issued an injunction forbidding Microsoft from selling new copies of Word 2007.  On Wednesday yet another ruling has been made against Microsoft, with a judge upholding the $290 million dollar judgment against Microsoft in favor it plaintiff i4i as well as the injunction.

  • Microsoft patches Excel, XP, Vista, W7, Virtual PC; leaves others holes alone Submitted by Microsoft Subnet on Tue, 03/09/2010

    As part of Microsoft's regular Patch Tuesday schedule, the company released two patches that fix eight holes in Windows and Microsoft Office. Both patches have an overall rating of "important" but using another metric, Microsoft's Exploitability Index, they have earned the highest rating of "1." This means that Microsoft Security believes that exploit code is not only likely, but that it can be created in such a way as to be consistently successful.
