The New Data Center: Server Virtualization
Server Virtualization

Defrag those servers!

By Keith Shaw, NetworkWorld.com, 11/03/04

Executive Software today released Diskeeper 9.0 Administrator and Server Editions, disk defragmentation software that monitors systems and helps improve performance across networked systems.

The new Administration Edition now includes network-wide defragmentation, a SQL database and a Windows .NET-based user interface, Executive Software says. The Server Enterprise Edition uses the Terabyte Volume Engine (TVE) to defrag multiple terabyte volumes with millions of files, the company added.

Other new features include the Frag Shield, which reduces the fragmentation of critical system files; the I/O Smart feature, which monitors drive access during defragmentation to ensure the top speed; the ability to set up to two schedules per drive, letting custom defragmentation based on when people use their computer; and file performance defragmentation mode, which gives an instant performance boost by defragmenting the files that cause the biggest slowdowns.

More information on the software is available at the Executive Software Web site.
