SanDisk Corp. was busy today, introducing a few new portable memory products, including a USB 2.0 flash memory storage drive that also adds a fingerprint scanner to help protect data stored on the drive.
The Cruzer Profile is about the size of a pack of gum and will come in 512M-byte ($99.99) and 1G-byte ($199.99) capacities, and includes dual LEDs. SanDisk says one LED indicates the USB functionality and data transfer, and the second LED shows the proper status during the enrollment and authentication of the user's fingerprint. The Cruzer Profile will not require any applications on a user's PC, as fingerprint images will be stored on the device. However, the device will include portable password manager software that they can use on any host PC. Other software includes CruzerLock 2 (data file encryption), CruzerSync (synchronizes device with Outlook Data) and Cruzer PocketCache, which lets you do file backups with minimal memory consumption. SanDisk says the Cruzer Profile devices will ship in mid-April.
The company also announced a 1G-byte xD-Picture Card compatible with Olympus and Fuji digital cameras, as well as a 2G-byte Cruzer Titanium USB 2.0 flash drive (rugged design to physically protect data).
The xD-Picture Card will be available in April for $139.99 in the U.S.; the Cruzer Titanium is also expected to ship in April for $249.99. A 512M-byte and 1G-byte version of the Cruzer Titanium are currently available for $84.99 and $169.99, respectively.
