Sprint launches new multimedia phone

By Keith Shaw, NetworkWorld.com, 06/29/05

Sprint and Sanyo today launched a new multimedia cell phone (the MM-8300) that includes a built-in media player, video mail functionality and the ability to change the color of the phone's faceplate. The phone will be available in Sprint stores nationwide starting the week of July 11, and will cost $299.99 (or $149.99 after rebates and service agreements).

Sanyo-MM-8300-allcolors.jpgThe MM-8300 is the successor to the MM-8200 model, and includes a built-in camcorder, VGA camera with a flash and digital zoom, a speaker phone and Internet browsing. E-mail access and instant messaging are available as well, Sprint says.

The phone's media player will provide access to 19 channels of audio- and video-on-demand services through Sprint's optional PCS Vision Multimedia Service, which includes live news from Fox News Channel, Music Choice audio and cartoons and other content from Warner Bros., Twentieth Century Fox and Universal Pictures.

The phone will come with three base colors – Silver, Atlantic Blue and Red Hot – with other colors and face plates sold separately.

Tech Horizons: ASG's metaCMDB, The Technology That Rocks - ASG
Improved business productivity often requires more efficient IT and more efficient IT cannot be achieved without a better understanding of the way business services are run and delivered. Configuration Management Databases (CMDBs) have emerged as a central component for Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) and business service management (BSM). Read this independent research report by Forrester Research, Inc. to see why, based on an evaluation of four categories including market heat factor; adoption heat factor; implementation heat factor; and company heat factor, ASG's solution has received the highest rating and has been designated "On Fire."
