Iomega offers file-sharing software with hard drives

Iomega announced today that its entire line of Iomega external hard drives will include FolderShare software, which lets users access files and folders from anywhere in the world securely and privately.
The FolderShare software is a peer-to-peer software application that ensures that only invited users can access the FolderShare libraries. It's basically a customizable and personal VPN, letting users create up to 250 FolderShare libraries, each with up to 50,000 files and folders. The system uses RSA key certificates and also protects file transfers between computers with 256-bit AES encryption, Iomega says.
The external hard drives will ship with FolderShare Basic, which provides personal file synchronization and file distribution and the ability to set up two FolderShare libraries with up to 500 files each, and synchronization between two or more PCs (with the ability to give other users read-only access).
FolderShare Personal ($49.95 per year) and Professional ($99.95 per year) versions offer more libraries, files and the ability to assign read-write access to other users. The application is sold separately through the Iomega Web site.
Drives supported include Iomega's 3.5-inch desktop hard drives, USB 2.0 hard drives, 2.5-inch portable drives and the 1.8-inch mini drives. Capacities range from 80G-bytes up to 250G-bytes on some models.
