Motion shrinks a Tablet PC

Tablet maker Motion Computing today launched the LS800, a tablet that is about half the size of a normal Tablet PC but packed with the latest high-performance technologies.
The slate-style LS800 runs Windows XP Tablet Edition 2005 and measures about the size of a large paperback book. The company says the device was designed to fit into a doctor's lab coat pocket, or attach to a tool belt, for such workers in route sales, service and manufacturing.
The LS800 includes an 8.4-inch display, measures less than 1-inch thick and weighs only 2.2 pounds, Motion says. It includes a 1.2-GHz Intel Pentium M Ultra Low Voltage 753 processor, as well as the Intel 915GMS Express Chipset. Other features include 512M-bytes of memory, a 60G-byte hard drive and a standard battery offering up to three hours of continuous usage.
The tablet also includes Motion's proprietary Speak Anywhere technology, which includes dual-array microphones, background noise cancellation and more accurate voice recognition for speech-to-text applications. It has a Gigabit Ethernet port (through the MobileDock docking station) for faster wired connections. Wireless features include embedded 802.11a/b/g, Bluetooth and an infrared port.
The LS800 is now available through Motion Computing's Web site and resellers starting at $1,899.
