Chipmaker VIA Technologies recently announced that its VIA C3 processor would power new Microtel SYSMAR710, 715, 150 and 151 PC systems available at WalMart.com. The combination of the low power VIA C3 processor and 128M-byte SDRAM on a VIA Apollo PLE133 chipset-based motherboard will be included on Microtel's SYSMAR710 PC, a new LindowsOS system that Walmart.com will sell for $199. The $299 SYSMAR150 will include Windows XP Home edition.
The Microtel systems include the C3 processor with 133MHz Front Side Bus, 128M-bytes of SDRAM, integrated 2D/3D graphics, and a 10G-byte hard drive. The system can include a 56K bit/sec modem, or 10/100 Ethernet card, or both (extra $19 for both). The system includes two 5.25-inch external, two 3.5-inch external and one 3.5-inch internal drive bays, three PCI slots, a high-speed serial port, parallel port, two USB ports, game port, 104-key keyboard, two-button mouse, audio ports and stereo speakers.
