Aspire Digital has launched its first product, the AD-8000, an all-in-one DVD player and digital video recorder (DVR). The DVR feature can record from DVDs, VHS tapes, video cameras (digital and analog) to CD-R and CD-RW disks quicker than with a computer, the company says.
Recording can be done in real-time, Aspire says, and is compatible with DVD, SVCD, VCD, CD, MP3 and Kodak PhotoCD formats. The device also includes Dolby 5.1 audio output, a Dolby Digital AC-3 decoder, DTS digital audio output and progressive scan. It has a 4:3/16:9 display conversion and parental lock settings. Audio/video and S-video inputs are included on the front and back panels for ease of use. It can also record both NTSC and PAL formats.
The AD-8000 will cost $599 and will be available this month at Tiger Direct, Technobrands, Costco.com and Aspire Digital's Web site.

The Sony GX3 or GX7 is the best solution for recording Ultasound and x-ray images in real time and with sound. This unit supports both DVD-R, DVD-RW and DVD+RW. Our tests have shown that the DVD+RW is best for realtime recoring as there is no time to wait while the disk is finalised when it is ejected. We have also found it plays back on all new DVD drives in PC's and DVD players. We also have a control system to enable automatic start and stop with x-ray systems.
