Speaker system maker Altec Lansing Technologies debuted several new speaker systems at the E3 (Electronic Entertainment Expo) in Los Angeles this week. The systems included the XA video game speaker line and a mid-range line of speakers (the 200 series) for PC users.
The company said the new XA products would help "satisfy the unmet demand for better video game sound." The systems are designed for use with Microsoft's Xbox, Nintendo's GameCube and Sony's PlayStation 2. The company said the speakers would also improve the audio of television shows and DVD movies by "reproducing frequencies that are often omitted from television speakers."
The XA line includes three different systems, including:
The XA 3001, a one-piece system that consists of a subwoofer to bring out the low frequencies of a video game's soundtrack, and adds "rumble effects." The XA 3001 costs $50.
The XA 3021, a three-piece system that includes a subwoofer and two "satellite" speakers. The $100 system also includes a wired remote control and two headphone jacks.
The XA 3051 (pictured), a six-piece system with five satellite speakers and a subwoofer (due in July 2002) that will cost $200. The XA 3051 system features 100 system wats and Dolby Surround Pro Logic technology.Click here for a larger view of the XA 3051 speakers.
The 200 Series of speakers feature three different models, and include the following:
The 251 system, which provides 90 watts of power and six-channel sound. The system comes with five satellite speakers and a subwoofer. The company says the center-channel satellite speaker includes a pivoting stand that facilitates "down-firing audio output," which aallows placement on top of or in front of a PC monitor. The system costs $100.
The 221 system, which offers two speakers and a subwoofer and with 50 watts of power, at $50.
The 220 system, a $30 system with two satellite speakers that can fit onto a desktop.
The company said the 251 and 221 systems are now available, the 220 systems will be available on June 1.
