Archos Technology has released the Cesar CD-RW/MPM, which it claims is the world's smallest and most portable CD writer. The circular burner measures 5.3-inches around by 0.9-inches thick, and weighs 14.5 ounces. While the device comes with a 5V DC power adapter, it doesn't need the adapter, as it can draw power from a connected desktop or notebook PC.
The drive also comes with a choice of swappable interfaces, including USB 2.0, FireWire or PC Card, and is also "hot swappable," meaning there is no need to reboot the computer. Speeds of the device (when used with FireWire or USB 2.0) are 8x for CD-R and CD-RW, and 24x for reading (12x if done via PC Card). If used with a USB 1.1 cable, the speeds go to 4x for CD-R and CD-RW, and 6x for reading.
The device costs $250 and comes with the interface cable, software and the power adapter.
