Intel recently launched three new Mobile Intel Pentium 4 Processor-M-based laptop designs at speeds of 1.8, 1.5 and 1.4GHz. This adds to the Mobile Pentium 4 Processor-M family, which already had chips with speeds of 1.7 and 1.6GHz. The new chips cost $637 (1.8GHz), $268 (1.5GHz) and $198 (1.4GHz).

The company also announced more than 30 new laptops that would have the new processors in them, including:

Dell

Dell announced two new notebooks, the Inspiron 2650 starting at $1,299, and the higher-end Precision M50, which starts at $3,599. Both notebooks feature the new Mobile Pentium 4-M processor.

The Inspiron 2650 comes with speeds of either 1.4, 1.5, 1.6 or 1.7GHz combined with an Intel 845MZ chipset. Other features include:

  • Up to 512M bytes of DDR RAM

  • Displays of 14.1-inches or 15-inches (1028 by 768 pixel resolution)

  • Video graphics by NVIDIA GeForce 2Go 100, 8M bytes or 16M bytes

  • A choice of 20-, 30- or 40G-byte hard drive

  • Fixed 24X CD-ROM, 8X DVD, 8X CD-RW or 8X DVD/CD-RW combination drive

  • Integrated 56K bit/sec. V.92 modem and integrated 10/100 Ethernet

  • Two USB ports and one PC Card slot

    The Precision M50 comes with speeds of up to 1.8GHz, and is designed for mobile professionals who need to do high-end computing, Dell said. Other features include:

  • Up to 1G bytes of DDR SDRAM

  • A 15-inch TFT UXGA display

  • NVIDIA Quardro4 500 GoGL graphics card with 64M bytes of DDR graphics memory, and 4X AGP support graphics controller

  • Either a 40G-byte or 60G-byte hard drive

    Chem USA

    Chem USA Corp. announced two notebooks that had the new Intel chips, the ChemBook 3020E Series and the ChemBook Model 6300C Series.

    The ChemBook 3020E features the Mobile Pentium 4-M processor with speeds up to 1.8GHz, and pricing starts at $1,499. Other features include:

  • Two memory slots expandable to 1G bytes of RAM

  • Displays of 14.1-inch XGA (1024 by 768 resolution) or SXGA (1400 by 1050 SXGA+)

  • NVIDIA SQ17 (32M bytes of DDR for VRAM)

  • Hard drives up to 40G bytes

  • Optional CD-ROM, DVD-ROM, CD-RW or DVD/CD-RW Multi-Drive

  • Removable 3.5-inch floppy drive

  • Two Type II PC Card slots or one Type III slot

  • Integrated 56K bit/sec. V.92 modem and 10/100 Ethernet

  • 802.11b wireless module with Mini-PCI interface (integrated)

    The 6300C series features processor speeds up to 1.8 GHz, supporting a 400MHz system bus, and starts at $1,699. Other features of the 6300C include:

  • RAM expandable up to 1G bytes

  • Displays at either 14.1-inches or 15-inches, with XGA, SXGA+ or UXGA (1600 by 1200 resolution)

  • ATI Mobility M7-P/M7-D (integrated 32M bytes of DDR SRAM) video graphics card

  • Hard drive of up to 40G bytes

  • Fixed CD-ROM, DVD-ROM, CD-RW or DVD/CD-RW Multi-Drive

  • Fixed 3.5-inch floppy drive

  • Two Type II or one Type III PC Card slot

  • Integrated MDC modem and LAN on-board
