As we sit in the San Diego airport ready to go home, I finally got my Sprint PCS PC Card to connect to their new PCS Vision network (CDMA 1xRTT). In a quick rudimentary test of the service by checking out my performance at www.toast.net, I was able to get about 274.6K bit/sec of throughput, higher than 56K dial-up and on the lower end of cable/DSL-type speeds. Pretty good performance for a network that is advertising 40K to 70K bit/sec. on average. We'll see how it works when we get back to Boston.
Overall I thought it was a good conference, with a lot of different companies providing the tools of tomorrow to try to get end users (both consumers and professionals) more mobile and more productive. As my mobile experiment showed, we've got some good stuff currently and some things we've got to work on.
Back on Monday we're back to the regular Cool Tools: Daily Dose. Thanks for reading!
