Nokia today announced its first mobile phone compliant with both the GSM 900/1800 frequencies and the Wideband CDMA (WCDMA) network. The new Nokia 6650 phone has the capability to run more than one data session simultaneously. The dual-mode features of the phone make it the first GSM/WCDMA handset to work in Europe and Asia, including Japan, Nokia says.
Network tests of the phone will start in the fourth quarter of this year, Nokia says. Commercial deliveries of the phone are estimated to begin in the first half of 2003, depending on network operators' schedules and interoperability testing, the company added.
The phone features a large color display, integrated camera with both still photo and video capture ability, and voice, along with multiple data connectivity options. Nokia says the design of the phone is based on putting both the GSM and WCDMA chip onto one circuit, which enables talk times up to 2 hours and 20 minutes in WCDMA mode and up to 2 hours, 40 minutes in GSM, and standby time of up to two weeks.
The phone also can record video simultaneously with sound. In addition, users can turn on the VGA camera just by opening the lens cover of the camera. Video clips can be captured for up to 20 seconds, in 4,096 colors. The pictures or clips can be viewed and stored on the phone, or sent to a compatible phone or e-mail address via a multimedia message.
Software for the 6650 will let users view and edit the multimedia contents of the phone on their PC. A "personal movie" can be created by collecting different video clips, arranging them in any order, and played back like a movie. The PC Suite software also allows for synchronization of calendar and contacts between the PC and the phone.
The phone includes a WAP 1.2.1 browser (supported on GPRS), and Java 1.0 technology for downloading additional applications. Polyphonic ring tones are supported, and a wallet application for mobile transactions are included. Data connectivity options include USB, Bluetooth and infrared.
Does this phone work in CDMA network?
i know it is a W-CDMA phone but will it work in CDMA network?

it does not run on CDMAone 1xRTT CDMA, CDMA2000 network etc... are a different protocol to WCDMA (3GPP).
