Olympus America recently introduced the W-10, a digital voice recorder that includes a 0.3 megapixel CMOS camera/sensor that can capture VGA images. Olympus says users can reference and organize digital voice recordings using pictures from the camera.
The tiny W-10 (it measures 4.7- by 1.16- by 0.7-inches and weighs 2.4 oz.) also lets users make instant audio/visual recordings to create "slide shows" for business or pleasure, Olympus says. The device connects to a PC via high-speed USB interface for quick upload and download of WAV audio and JPEG image files to their computer.
The device has 16M bytes of built-in flash memory, and can store up to three hours (in Long Play Mode) of voice and up to 250 images. The device has a "Variable Control Voice Actuator" that ensures that recording begins only when sound is sensed, to maximize recording time, Olympus says. Bundled with the device is "voice album" software that manages the voice recordings and images. Recordings and images can also be edited and moved between folders.
The W-10 will cost $119.99 (retail, $99.99 street price) and be available in November, Olympus says. The device also comes with earphones, a hand strap, soft case and two AAA batteries. Go to the Olympus America Web site for more details.
