Bluetooth was supposed to be easy -- but somewhere along the way came the inevitable loading of drivers and connection profiles that made it much more difficult than it needs to be. PalmSource (the software group) and Sony Ericsson (one of the drivers of Bluetooth) want to change that.
I spoke with officials from PalmSource today to discuss their announcement that they are working together to make "out-of-the-box" compatibility between Bluetooth-enabled Sony Ericsson phones and Palm OS devices.
The main motivation for this is to give connectivity to Palm OS devices, and connecting to the Internet via a Bluetooth-enabled phone is one way to accomplish this.
PalmSource officials said the arrangement with Sony Ericsson would be to make Bluetooth easier on future devices (phones, converged devices, etc.) and would also be developed on the Palm OS 5 operating system.
