Griffin Technologies recently announced the availability of its SecuriKey Personal Edition, a key-like token (and software) that lets road warriors and SOHO users control access to their laptops or desktop PCs.
The hardware and software controls access to PC operating systems and user files, Griffin says. If the PC is lost or stolen, the data is still protected. In addition -- the technology includes partial access without user authentication so children and other users can use the PC without being to open specific files or applications, Griffin says.
The SecuriKey token is small enough to fit onto a key chain, and plugs into an end user's USB port (or USB hub) on the laptop or desktop. Each kit includes two SecuriKey USB tokens. Griffin says the second token can be used as a backup toekn or can be configured to control access for a second user.
The system costs $149, and includes the two tokens, security software and documentation. Go to the SecuriKey Web site for more details. The product will be available later this year at retail outlets, Griffin says.
