SMC Networks recently launched two new wireless networking products that aim to "double" the speed of the network -- a wireless access point (SMC2455W 2.4GHz 11/22 Mbps) and a wireless bridge (SMC2482W 2.4GHz 11/22). Both products will cost $129 each and are expected to be available in early November, SMC says.
The products include the Texas Instruments chipset to provide double the standard 802.11b wireless communication to give speeds up to 22M bit/sec., SMC says. Both products also provide 64-, 128- or 256-bit WEP encryption and MAC address filtering.
Installation can occur via the Windows utility software or a Web-based interface, SMC says. Both products can support up to 253 simultaneous users. The wireless bridge is designed to connect two or more separated LANs, SMC says. It provides coverage of up to 20 miles with the addition of optional SMC high-gain antennas (SMCANT-DI105, SMCANT-DI135, SMCANT-DI145 or SMCANT-DI215).
