Sharp Systems of America today said it upgraded its Actius line of notebooks, including processor upgrades, expanded hard drives and other performance enhancements.

SharpActius-UM32-small.jpgThe ultraportable Actius UM32W includes a 1.0GHz Intel low-voltage Mobile Pentium III processor, 256M bytes of RAM, integrated 802.11b wireless technology, a 40G-byte hard drive, two USB 2.0 ports and Windows XP Professional. The notebook weighs about 3 lbs., and measures 0.77-inches thick, Sharp says. Every UM32W will also ship with an external USB-connected CD-ROM drive. The drive comes with a standard battery that gives about 2.4 hours of operation, and can provide up to 7.2 hours of operation with an optional extended life battery. The UM32W starts at $1,999.

The Actius MV series notebook includes a 1.13GHz Intel Mobile Pentium III-M processor, 256M bytes of RAM, 802.11b connectivity, an integrated DVD/CD-RW combination drive, and a 40G-byte hard drive. It has a 12.1-inch LCD screen, measures 1-inch thick and weighs about 3.7 lbs. This notebook also starts at $1,999.

The Actius GP series (GP22W) includes a 2.2GHz Intel Desktop Pentium 4 processor, 512M bytes of SDRAM, a 40G-byte hard drive, integrated 802.11b wireless, Secure Digital and SmartMedia card slots, a combination CD-R/RW and DVD-ROM drive, and four USB 2.0 ports. The GP22W starts at $1,899.

I currently own a Sharp Actius GP22W laptop. As for the performance I feel that it is an excelent machine short the lack of bettery life. My battery has died and I have been searching for a replacement with no avail. I have e-mailed Sharp customer support twice, last time being a week ago, and have not gotten a reply. The web site offers nothing for this model and it appears Sharp is not supporting any of their products not currently on for sale on the market.....

Hi Jared,
I'm in the same boat. Did you ever find a replacement? I've looked everywhere with no luck.
Thanks,
Doug
