NETGEAR today announced its new Dual-Band Wireless Access Point (WAB102), which gives companies the option of having 802.11a (5GHz, up to 54M bit/sec) or 802.11b (2.4GHz, up to 11M bit/sec) wireless networks. NETGEAR already has the WAB501 dual-band Wireless PC Card.
The WAB102 is backward compatible with any IEEE wireless networking standard in the 2.4GHz and 5GHz band, NETGEAR says. It also has an 802.11a "turbo" mode, which offers up to 108M bit/sec of data rates. To get the turbo rates customers must be using both NETGEAR access points and client cards.
Other features include MAC address filtering, 152-bit WEP encryption, and a Web-based configuration tool The access point is available now for $299 through retailers. Go to the SMC Web site for more details.

NOTE - Regarding the Turbo Mode, you can use any brand of client access adaptor cards as long as they are of the same chipset used for the AP and client wireless card, plus the utility that came with card needs to be have that ability as well.
