Opera Software has released Beta 2 of its Opera for Windows browser, with new "power browsing" features.
New features include a "fast forward" button, which gives "immediate access to the pages you will want to visit next," a one-click log-in password manager (called "The Wand"), a new links panel that displays all links in the current page, a one-click skin installation and new panel management and user style sheets.
The fast forward feature automatically moves to the next page without having the user click onto a "next page" or "next results" link, Opera Software says. The software has a new rendering engine that supports W3C's Document Object Model (DOM) level 2, non-standard dynamic HTML (DHTML), CSS1 and CSS2, ECMAScript, and improved HTML 4.01 support. The software also supports WML 1.3 and 2.0.
It has a new e-mail client, M2, which automatically categorizes and sorts e-mail messages by contact. The client also has an integrated spam filter. New features such as QuickReply and QuickFind lets users answer or find e-mails faster, Opera said. The M2 client supports POP3, IMAP, ESMTP and threaded display of mailing lists. M2 also supports news servers with password authentication.
The browser is available for free with a sponsored advertising banner in the top right corner of the interface. To remove the banner, a user must register for $39. A new feature in Opera 7 lets users experience 14 banner-free days after the user's first download. If the user then chooses to register, the advertising banner is removed.
