Kyocera Wireless Corp. announced today that ALLTEL will begin selling the new Kyocera 7135 smartphone in the U.S.
The Kyocera 7135 is a converged device that uses a Palm OS for PDA functionality and also operates as a mobile phone. The phone can access the CDMA 1x RTT network to offer voice coverage and data rates up to 153K bit/sec. The 7135 includes a 65,000-color display, assisted GPS (A-GPS) technology, and an expansion card slot for Secure Digital and MultiMedia Cards. The 7135 also has an onboard MP3 audio player.
More features include a speakerphone, voice-activated dialing, silent vibrating alert, two-way SMS text messaging, e-mail and three different modes of Web access (HTML browser, Web clipping and WAP). The device has 16M bytes of onboard memory, and functions like a Palm organizer for PIM functions (address book, calendar, to do, notes, etc.).
The device measures 3.97- by 2.43- by 1.17 inches, and weighs about 6.6 oz. The 7135 has a user-replaceable lithium ion battery that can provide up to 3.5 hours of talk time and up to 160 hours of standby time in digital mode, Kyocera Wireless says.
