ContentWatch Inc. recently released its EmailProtect software, a client application that lets users eliminate unwanted e-mails based on categories. The company says it uses an advanced engine to analyze and categorize the content of an e-mail message. The engine lets users choose a category (for example, pornography or gambling), and the software blocks hundreds of phrases. With other software, the company says, a user would have to write separate word rules for each item.
The software starts up directly when users open their mail client, giving them the chance to see already filtered messages in their in-box, the company said. Also included is a feature that lets users add "friends" to a list simply, as well as adding a block list quickly. Multiple e-mail accounts can be added through all accounts that receive mail through the PC that is running the software. Other features include automatic updates from ContentWatch, as well as the ability to remove graphic images from being shown in e-mail. Finally, blocked e-mails stored in the quarantine area can be automatically deleted after a select number of days, ContentWatch said.
The software supports Microsoft Outlook, Outlook Express, Eudora, Pegasus and Netscape mail clients. The software requires Windows 98/ME/2000/XP, 16M bytes of RAM, 10M bytes of hard disk space, a 133MHz processor or higher, CD-ROM drive and color monitor with 800 by 600 pixel resolution. Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.0 or higher and an Internet connection are also required. The software costs $39.95. More details are available at the ContentWatch Web site.
