Confused about the battles between DVD reading / writing formats? With this device, you don't have to worry.

FirewireDirect.com said today it has FireWire and combination FireWire/USB 2.0 versions of a new DVD burner for Macintosh and Windows systems that includes write support for a multitude of DVD media formats. The UltraBURN II Plus provides support for DVD+R and +RW media (in addition to DVD-R and DVD-RW), the company said.

FireWireDVD.jpgThe device will support writing or rewriting to almost all media, FirewireDirect.com said. "While the industry continues to debate what type of DVD media will become standard, this drive covers all the bases by allowing writing to both DVD+R/RW and DVD-R/RW media at the fastest speeds available for each type of media," the company announced.

The device has a 4x writing speed to DVD-R, the top speed available for DVD-R writing and included in the "Super Drive" family, including FirewireDirect's UltraBURN II DVD-RW. The new Plus version lets users burn on DVD+R and DVD+RW media not supported on those other drives, the company said. DVD+RW and +R formats store up to 4.7G bytes of data on a single disc, the company says. The DVD+RW and +R format is supported on many DVD players.

The device can be ordered through FirewireDirect's Web site. Pricing ranges from $415 up to $489, depending on options (external, internal, connectivity method, etc.).
