Bantam Interactive announced it will be shipping its BA1000 digital audio player / hard drive in March 2003. The new player includes a built-in MP3 encoder that lets users record music directly from CDs, vinyl albums or cassettes without using a PC.
The device uses a Toshiba 1.8-inch hard drive, and has features such as FM radio and voice recording, and USB 2.0 technology for quicker file transfers. The BA1000 will come in 2G-byte and 5G-byte versions, and will cost $229.99 and $329.99 respectively.
The device uses a built-in lithium-polymer battery that Bantam says has up to 16 hours of life. The player supports MP3 and Windows Media (WMA) file formats. In addition to playing music, the device can be used as a portable hard drive for non-audio files. The device measures 4.2- by 2.6- by 1.2-inches, and weighs 6.8 oz.
