Pen&Internet this week announced availability of its riteMail 2.0 for Windows and Pocket PC here at the show. The software lets Pocket PC users take notes with their natural handwriting, and then e-mail their notes to any e-mail address. I saw a demo of the new software, and was pretty impressed by the features. Pretty soon I could be trading in my pen and paper for a PDA for true note-taking abilities.
The PDA software works better in conjunction with the Windows client application, where a user can do more advanced editing features. Pen&Internet calls this "deferred notes processing," where a note can be copied, deleted, resized, color changed, etc., on the PC after a note has been transferred from the PDA.
Some of the cooler features with riteMail 2.0 include shape recognition -- the program converts roughly drawn circles, squares, etc., into their computer-drawn equivalents. In addition, the software can align shapes along the same line, and also draw perfectly centered (congruent) circles (good for when you want to sketch a donut, for example).
The riteMail software is also available for Tablet PC, Windows CE 3.0 handhelds, and Palm OS-based devices. The base cost for the Pocket PC version is $21.95, and $24.95 for the Windows version. The software costs $19.95 as an introductory price through March 31. Go to the Pen&Internet Web site for more details.
