Sony today launched two new digital cameras in its Cyber-shot series – the ruggedized, waterproof DSC-U60, and a lightweight and "fashionable" DSC-U30 model that includes a strap to make the camera wearable. The cameras will be available in early July, and will cost $250 (for the DSC-U60) and $200 (for the DSC-U30). The devices are 2.0 megapixel cameras with Super HAD CCD, with a fixed focal length lens, Sony said.
The DSC-U60 (pictured) is designed for one-handed operation and has a vertical orientation, Sony said. Start-up time on the camera is under a second, and the camera has buttons that can be accessed with a thumb, adding to the one-handed nature of the device. The camera is “weatherproofed” with “O-ring sealing closures,” the company added.
The DSC-U30 comes in three different colors (blue, silver and grey), which Sony says can “match any outfit or mood.” The camera includes a circular mirror on the sliding lens cover to make sure that the picture is framed correctly, for moments when the person taking the picture wants to be in the shot.
