Kodak today launched its latest EasyShare digital camera, the DX6490 zoom. The $499 camera, expected to be available in September, includes a combination of advanced features and performance aimed at the “advanced amateur” photographer, Kodak said.
The DX6490 is a 4 megapixal camera that includes a Schneider-Kreuznach Variogon 10x optical zoom lens (38-380 mm equivalent) with a f/2.8 – f/3.7 maximum aperture, Kodak says. Other features include a Kodak Color Science image processing chip, low-light auto-focus, and multiple shooting modes.
A dual-speed zoom control feature lets users drive the lens from 1x to 10x in about two seconds, Kodak says, and then extend the total magnification up to 30x through Kodak’s Advanced Digital Zoom technology. The camera has a 2.2-inch LCD screen, and 16M bytes of internal memory for storing photos. A Secure Digital / MultiMedia Card slot is also available for more memory storage. The camera comes with software for Windows and Macintosh systems.
A red “share” button lets users tag photos for e-mailing (you can store up to 32 e-mail addresses on the camera), printing or marking as a “favorite.” An optional docking station (the EasyShare camera dock 6000, $79.95) offers one-touch picture transfer to a PC while keeping the camera’s lithium-ion battery charged, Kodak said. Additionally, the camera works with the Kodak EasyShare printer dock 6000 ($199.95), which lets you print borderless 4- by 6-inch photos without connecting to a PC.
