Network World Fusion, 08/27/03

EnGenius Technologies recently announced a new version of its cordless phone system, which now includes an auto-attendant that can direct callers to specific handsets, and on-hold music.

EnGenius490.jpgEnGenius says its EP-490 model offers more than three times the power of 2.4 GHz and 5.8 GHz phone systems, and includes features such as auto-attendant for directing calls to specific handsets, call transfer, call forwarding, music on-hold, speed dial, three-way calling and text messaging between handsets. The system comes with a single 4-line base unit, and works with one to 36 cordless handsets. The two-way, full duplex radio adds specific communication between two users without creating a walkie-talkie, group chatter effect, or a “push-to-talk” feature seen in other two-way systems, the company added. Another feature is a hot-swap battery capability, which lets users to change a battery while the call is on hold. In addition, the handsets include a 2.5 mm headset jack for hands-free headsets.

The system uses digital spread spectrum (DSS) technology and frequency hopping, and the system has a range of 250,000 square feet in a manufacturing plant or warehouse setting, 3,000 acres on a ranch (or open field), or 12 floors in an urban building setting.

For more details on the product, go to the EnGenius Web site.
