Epson today launched a new portable projector that requires no video cables, or even a hard-wired video connection in order to project PowerPoint and other multimedia presentations. The projector costs $5,399 and is now available through audio/visual retailers and other direct PC dealers, Epson said.
The PowerLite 7850p supports XGA native resolution (1,024 by 768 pixels), has a 700:1 contrast ratio, 3,500 lumens of brightness and weighs 12.8 pounds (conference room style). The projector has a PCMCIA slot that can be used with a wireless LAN (802.11b) connection, or an Ethernet card for direct connection to a LAN. With the wireless connectivity, multiple presenters can connect to the projector without having to switch cabling.
In addition, the 7850p supports Epson’s EasyMP feature, which lets users put their presentations on a PCMCIA card and project them directly from the card. This lets users present without even connecting a PC, Epson says. Connecting the projector to a LAN lets IT staff use the EasyManagement feature to monitor and control the projector from remote locations through the Epson utility program or a Web browser. E-mail alerts can be set up that notifies staff members regarding the projector’s temperature, fan operation and lamp status. Another feature lets companies put a password on the projector, which can reduce the chance of the projector being stolen, the company added.
