Impressed with all those MP3 players with 20G-byte hard drives? Pish posh.

Toshiba-18-HDD-side.jpgToshiba’s Storage Device Division (SDD) today announced its 1.8-inch embedded hard disk drives, including one that offers 40G-bytes of storage (dual platter). The company said the 1.8-inch family of hard drives would be available in 5G-, 10G-, 15G-, 20G-, 30G- and 40G-byte capacities.

The company, which made available the hard drives for manufacturers, said products that could use these hard drives include mobile entertainment devices (mobile meaning cars), MP3 players, handheld computers, ultraportable notebooks, portable handheld GPS devices, just to name a few. The drives are smaller than a credit card, Toshiba said, and lighter than a pager. For more information, go to the Toshiba SDD Web site.
