Network World Fusion, 01/15/04

Fun and networking don't always mix, but here's a portal that has some neat features. Also, we may need to check with our lawyers regarding the name (just kidding!).

The MyCoolTools Web portal from Visualware offers four networking-related tools that offer users a quick way of finding out different things:

  • MySpeed, which gives a great visual representation of your Internet connection speeds, both download and upload rates.
  • CPUInfo, which provides a quick verification of system parameters, including processor speed, model number and cache settings.
  • WhoAmI, which offers a quick look at the Internet connectivity diagnostics, including operating system type and version, TCP/IP, local and external IP addresses, Internet gateway, DNS and Web access data.
  • VisualRoute Server, which can help identify hackers and suspected hackers by tracing an IP address to a geographical location, and help identify the network service provider for the IP address. The application also helps locate routing bottlenecks between the server and destination address.

A quick registration (via e-mail address) is required, which will also subscribe you to an e-mail newsletter; once you do that you can plug in your e-mail address (and PIN number) to use the portal.
