Wireless Security Corp. this week said it is offering a free Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA) tool for Windows 2000 users that lets them take advantage of WPA in a pre-shared key mode. The tool is available here.
The company said that some estimates say that 20% of all computers around the world are still using Windows 2000, and that Microsoft has not yet released a WPA client for Windows 2000. The free tool lets users avoid paying for a third-party WPA client or purchasing Windows XP, Wireless Security said.
WPA Assistant for Windows 2000 is aimed at home users with a single computer, or small businesses that do not use their wireless LAN for "essential business functions or transmitting confidential information," the company said. Companies that want stronger security can check out the company's WSC Guard service.
