Sony this month plans on debuting a new desktop PC system, the RS500 series, which includes a dual-format DVD+/- RW drive, and Sony's own Click to DVD creation software that aims to let users take their home movies and instantly convert them to DVD. The system is expected to start at about $850 (after $100 rebate), Sony said.

Other features on the PCV-RS530G include an Intel Pentium 4 processor at 3.20 GHz with Hyper-Threading Technology, 512M bytes of DDR RAM (upgradeable to 2G bytes), a 160G-byte hard drive, an ATI Radeon 9200 128M-byte graphics card, 10/100 Ethernet port, V.90 compatible modem, a media card reader (supports Memory Stick, Compact Flash Type I and II, IBM Microdrive and Smart Media cards), seven USB 2.0 ports and two i.Link ports (Sony's brand name for IEEE 1394). The system also has analog video inputs for 8mm and VHS camcorders to connect directly to the system.
