Network World Fusion, 06/03/04

Epson this week launched two new projectors in its "value series" of portable multimedia projectors. The PowerLite 81p and PowerLite 61p include built-in five-watt speakers, additional video and audio inputs, and 2,000 lumens of brightness.

A unique "blackboard mode" lets the projectors detect the color of a display surface (for example, a chalkboard or other off-white surface) and make adjustments to optimize the color reproduction, Epson said.

The devices include four video input connections, which let users plug in devices such as PCs, video players and audio devices. The audio inputs allow for users to plug in other audio devices. Finally, the projectors have a low fan noise (Epson says as low as 30 db), making them less distracting in presentation scenarios.

The 81p offers resolution support of XGA (1,024 by 768) native resolution and will cost $1,799; the 61p supports SVGA (800 by 600) native resolution and will cost $1,499. The projectors will be available through Epson's channel partners on June 20. For more details on Epson's multimedia projectors, go to the company's Web site.
