Network World Fusion, 07/28/04

Averatec today launched its 6200 Series of notebook PCs, which includes a stand-alone DVD player so you can watch a movie or listen to a CD or MP3 disc without booting up the computer.

Averatec-6200.jpgThe 6.2-pound notebook includes a Mobile AMD Athlon XP-M processor 2400+ with AMD's PowerNow technology, and has a 15.4-inch widescreen XGA TFT display (supports 1,280 by 800 resolution). Other features include a built-in DVD+/CD-RW combination drive, and an audio/video wireless remote control that is stored in the PCMCIA slot. Averatec says that with a smart lithium-ion battery, users can watch up to three 90-minute movies on a single battery charge (Ed. Note: Yeah, but how many movies are 90 minutes these days?).

Computer features include 802.11g wireless LAN connectivity, 512M bytes of DDR333 memory, a 60G-byte hard drive, integrated 10/100 Ethernet port and a 56K bit/sec. data/fax modem port. It also has four USB 2.0 ports, and one Type II PC Card/CardBus slot. It comes with Windows XP, Works 7.0, Roxio Easy CD Creator and Norton Anti-Virus 2004.

The notebook starts at $1,199 at retail outlets, or $1,249 directly from the Averatec web site.
