Addonics gets the prize today for the "most functions in one device" announcement. The San Jose-based company said its new MFR (stands for Multifunction Recorder) is a 25-in-1 digital media storage appliance that can do almost everything except make toast.

Addonics-MFR.jpgThe device can read and write 11 different memory card formats (see below), as well as conduct direct backup of files from those media cards onto six different disc types (see below). In addition, the device can connect to a TV and act as a DVD player, or act as a stand-alone MP3 player. If you have digital photos stored on any flash media cards (or DVD or CD), you can project them onto a TV or projector directly from the device.

The device costs $320, weighs about 1.5 pounds (with battery), and can be connected to a Macintosh or a PC (Windows 98 Second Edition and above). For more details, go to the company's Web store.

Media cards supported: Compact Flash I, Compact Flash II, Smart Media, Secure Digital, MultiMedia Card, Memory Stick, Memory Stick Pro, Memory Stick Duo, Microdrive, and xD card.

Recording media supported: DVD+R, DVD-R, DVD+RW, DVD-R/RW, CD-R, CD-RW.

Eight playback functions: DVD to TV, DVD to PC, CD playback, Video CD playback, still photo to TV, still photo via projector, S-Video and MP3 playback.
