Network World Fusion, 11/11/04

Samsung this week announced a new 17-inch LCD monitor that offers a 1,000:1 contrast ratio, which aims to provide more legibility when reading or viewing content. The SyncMaster 711T monitor is now shipping for an estimated street price of about $600.

Samsung-SyncMaster-711t.jpgThe company said contrast ratio is the measurement of the difference in light intensity between the brightest white and the darkest black. Higher contrast ratios tend to reduce eye fatigue and offer deeper shadows, brighter colors and sharper text, Samsung added.

Other features of the monitor include a 178-degree viewing angle, a brightness rate of 250 cd/m2, and a maximum resolution of 1,280 by 1,024 pixels. The system has both analog and digital video inputs, a 0.5-inch bezel and a removable base that makes it easier to mount onto a wall, and includes Pivot software that lets a user switch between portrait and landscape mode.

More details on the monitor are available at the Samsung USA Web site.
