Verizon ships LG color phone

I just bought the new vx4400 and I think it is great. The picture is fantastic and it has an endless amount of features. I do however have one problem with it. I cannot seem to find a way to download a new screen saver or banner. I was able to download the games, music and mail. The balloons, puppy, and beach get old really quick. If anyone can give me an answer on how to download a new banner or if it is simply impossible, it would be appreciated.

Well Eli, sorry to say, but you cant download new backgrounds. They didnt say tell you that when you roped you into a 2 year contract. I was reading on a UK site, that states "Choice of 8 backgrounds to customize" well my friend, sorry, but i dont want a fucking dog or happy ballons. This is ludacrius and something that will make me want to take the damn phone back.

I just bougt this phon and its great! The only problem is that thre are fewer games to download than other phones. Currently i manged to get my phone stuck in "manner moder" were theres no sound and no ring just a vibrater, if any one knows how to get it out of it please email me. Prep55@aol.com

Hold down the star button for 3 seconds...this will get you to complete quite mode...do the same thing again and you will be back at normal.

Great phone! How do I get rid of the "Verizon Wireless" banner below my personal banner??

You can't get rid of it on this phone. In fact it's important to know who's network you're on since it'd help you in knowing if you are roaming and incurring charges based on what plan you have.

If you have the America's Choice plan the only time you will incur roaming charges is if the banner were Verizon Wireless is, instead says Roaming and there is a new solid triangle icon next to the others. Also, you may be roaming, but not be charged for it since we have agreements with other companies to use their towers. So if the triangle icon is on the lcd, but it's not solid and is instead blinking, and the Verizon banner now says "Sprint, AT&T ect... or Extended Service..." you're not being charged roaming.

For any other plans besides the America's Choice plan the way to know if your getting charged roaming is to ask your Customer Service about your Local Digital Choice plan. I'm in Florida and ours basically only gets charged "domestic roaming" which means I only get charged roaming outside the state of Florida, even if the triangle icon on the LGVX4400 is solid or blinking.

***REGARDING THE LGVX4400 WALLPAPER***
Actually, you will be able to change the wallpaper and won't have to put up with ballons, the beach, or puppies later on. If you go to display-screens-wallpaper in your phone you'll see the soft key 2 button has an Actions. Push that and you can select, just like the ring tones through the defualts and the downloadable ones. Get it now, will eventually have wallpapers for this feature.

Hey, yea I totally hear everyone about the wallpaper issue. It's definatly annoying but overall I like the phone a lot. I went from the T120 which sucked to this one and i'm way happier. I didn't know how to download the wallpaper on that phone either. Is there a Get it now website? Maybe that would say something to when their gonna have a program for the wallpapers...

I've set up my voice activated dialing but can't figure out how to access it. when I press SEND, I go into vice mail. the manual gives great instructions, except how to actually use it! Also what does 1x mean on the screen.
I see it mentioned in the manual, but again, no explanation.

There is a button on th side of the phone below the 2 volume buttons. Just press that and it will prompt you for the voice-dial number you want.

The 1x mode is called "Express Network" also know as IS-2000 Rel.0. It's a 144kpbs connection to the net. Right now it's only capable of about 50-60kbps connections. With the office kit you can get for the phone to plug into a laptop or whatever you would get a faster connection then a standard office kit through the use of the 1x mode. However, it's not available in all areas yet.

Just picked up three of the vx 4400's. Seems like a great phone. My question is there a way to manage calander from my computer.

Regarding the 1x mode - That is the only type of "service" that my phone ever displays. I called my local Verizon store, but they had no idea what the 1x stood for. Am I still getting digital service when the phone displays 1x?

I want to know if there's a website that I can get on to download ringtones, games, etc... Without doing it on (get it now) and being charged airtime plus the price of the ringtone or game.I have the LG-vx4400 cellphone.

if u have weekends and nights free, which i think everyone does, just use GetIt Now then. Since your airtime is free it won't cost you anything. i hope the wallpaper thing comes soon, thats all i really care about. ringers and games don't really matter to me, but it would be nice if it had some built-in games like ever other phone.

Yeah, you can just goto the lginfocomm.com website and gota the vx 4400 an there's a pdf format manual. Does any one understand what the location thing is? other then jus for E911... if u do please give me that info.

Jenny, I had to go to the modtones website. Then it let me add song I liked to my wishlist, which then got downloaded to my phone when I connected to that app again. I was then able to preview my rings (songs) and choose to use them.

Nicholas, The location thing is also for calling your 611 service for directions (I am pretty sure), and also for future expansion posibilities.

I cannot wait to DL more wallpapers and screen savers once we can.

Bobby R, You cannot download anything to your phone without using airtime. Make sense?

I love my 4400, but just wish it would have come with a car charger since the battery does not last long, with using the color screen and polophonic rings, and cuz I am always playing with it since it is still a new toy to me.

i've got this phone now too, its great, except for the wallpaper and ringtones i agree. Although modtones is quite a wellmade service (much better than ringster), it does cost around $1 a tone even if u "buy in bulk".
So, the question is, where can we get new wallpapers and ringtones? Well, since GET PIX is not available for our phones yet.....we can sit and wait til it comes out if we like. Anyone who knows the date, let me know!
Another option is to download from many other sites. Yes this is definitely possible, because if you look at either the tones or screens section, there are Downloaded areas under Soft Key 2 if you check. However, there is a rumor that Verizon has blocked the downloading of images and tones from non-Verizon sites. Seems true to me, i cant download everything, as close as i've gotten i continue to get "Error: Restricted" or "contact your service provider" or something like that.

I really like the phone, and I am not going to let the wallpaper spoil my interest in the phone. I do have a question that the handbook does not explain in it's entirety and that is the answering machine feature. It says speaker on or speaker off. What does this mean. Please email me. This is the Verizon phone to get!!I'm sure glad I held out and did not get the Motorola T720. This phone blows it away. Finally Verizon is catching up to the other wireless phone companies and providing some decent phones that are feature rich. I got 2 of these phones for free from Verizon..With the $100 mail in rebate and a $100 credit for each phone for being long time customers. The LG VX4400 is a sturdy phone with a easy to use interface, great volume and a gorgeous color screen.
To address the wallpaper issue, use GAGIN. For the brave computer geeks, there are several ways to hack into the phone and put in personal wallpapers and ringtones bypassing Verizon's expensive "get it now" application. (just do a search on google, sorry Verizon!) You should see my personal wallpaper and hear the "Godfather" ring tone. I highly recommend this phone!!

Yes, GAGIN is the way to get FREE ringtones on your phone and the ONLY way to get WALLPAPER. It is nice to have the option to do so since Verizon is the only company that forces you to pay them for ringtones and wallpaper when almost every other provider on the planet allows you to aquire these things for free. Verizon is ripping people off with GetItNow (I refer to it as GetRippedOffNow). The programmers and hackers of the world have finally given us a way to get around Verizons facist practices. They have great coverage and great customer service, but get it now sucks. By the way, I love the VX4400, the best phone I have owned in the last 13 years, especially when used in combination with GAGIN (Get Around Get It Now)

there is even a easier way than GAGIN to get wallpapers and rintones to the the LG 4400....Its called bit pim and it can be downloaded here http://bitpim.sourceforge.net ...its simple and fast point and click....requires very little configuring or computer knowledge and it works on Windows 98,ME and 2000 unlike GAGIN...

All of you that are asking how to uses GAGIN and step by step info on wallpapers/ringtones. Go to wirelessadvisor.com of howardforums.com, check out the "LG" forums and do a search. There is plenty of info in those forums to walk you through.

regaurding the wallpaper issue if you just download the pictavision application and save and upload some images off the internet you can set them as your background as well as your own picture.

I have a LG 4400 problem that I was promised a call back from LG service department when I called LG 1-800 and Verison 1-800 and filled out a "Customers Voice" form Verison with since it can’t be fixed with out LG’s help that has not happened yet.

The Auto Answer function
(As mentioned on page 96 of owner’s manual.
Menu 8,5,4,after one ring):
When its set to answer after one ring the LG 4400 should only answer after one ring when the car kit is being used.

My present LG 4400 answers after one ring even if the car kit is not being used/installed on the LG 4400 and only want it to answer when the car kit is being used.

This is my second LG 4400 and my other one would do what the manual says (only answer when car kit is used after one ring). As mentioned on page 96 of the owner’s manual:
(Allows you to select the number of rings before the phone automatically answers a call. This feature is used only with the car kit.)

Please tell me how to make this happen ASAP the way the phone SHOULD work in real life applications.

Which is the same as the other one and do consider this a software
malfunction that needs to be fixed ASAP.

The phone is coo and everything but the LG 5350 is a hell of a lot easier and compatible with downloading sites...if your struggling with the LG 4400 just get the LG 5350 cuz its damn easier to change and customize as well as good service...hit me up if u need any info...

I bought the VX 4400 and like to carry it in my pocket, but that brings out one really annoying feature.

the Voice memo button on the side will get pressed in my pocket, putting the phone into Manner mode or worse yet silence All mode.

Is there a way to disable this feature on the voice memo button? I don't mind going to the * key to get this feature.

i was reading all these posts and noticed everyone is wanting new wallpaper but no one has mentioned Pictavision from what i had seen...i just got my LG and downloaded it...you can upload any photo onto a free account at dotphoto.com...then from your phone you can log on and view your pic there..then save it as wallpaper...i don't know if it helps anyone...and also ..does anyone find that they can't talk on their lg while on a car charger without constant beeps on the phone...any help would be appreciated

Wasn't sure if Pictavision supported this function. It does. Thanks! Pink Floyd now on the LG! Be careful though... The option of get it now pictavision offers a 30 day fee of 7.99 or 3.99 monthly subscription. I didn't know that a subscription is defined as 12 months of recurring charges. Seems like deceptive advertising. Verizon said they would pass the info on.

you are all wrong.you can definetely download new wallpapers onto your phone.just simply go to through www.dotphoto.com.....sign up...then through your handset..download pictavision.it will cost you about 6 dollars.set your same login as www.dotphoto.com/and same password.upload your pictures through your home computer or whereever they are stored onto www.dotphoto.com......the lord behold.you can view your fucken pictures and have the option to store them as your wallpaper./please.next time read your manuals.

Just purchased 2 LG-4400's. Great phones except the LG-5530 from another provider ( that has much worse service, etc.) has a better choice of ring tones and games that come standard on the 5530 phone. Where can I get the ring tones and games that are available on the 5530? Is there any way to link the two phones and copy the ring tones? I transferred my phone book from my previous cellphone to the LGVX4400, and now am finding it cumbersome to assign numbers with speed dial, and impossible to assign numbers from 100-199. Hey all...Just so you all know. It is possible to download backgrounds from your computer to your phone. Just buy a cable from your local radio shack. Buy the one labeled for the LG VX10 phone because that works best. Then download Bitpim and Comscan. They're open source programs. After that, you're set.

I don't understand this... and teenagers are supposed to be able to use all this internet stuff easily. I downloaded pictavision and all that stuff and now all i have to do left is save it as wallpaper. I can view the picture, i just don't know how to SAVE it. Would be glad if someone could help.

after you buy pictavision and download the pics on your phone do they stay there till you delete them or do they run out whrn your subscription runs out with pictavision

Wow...people are saying a phone sucks because it doesnt have the right tones and pictures. I wonder how many of you actually paid for the phone?! Mine came for free with my continued account with Verizon...not bad for a $250 dollar value (the cost of the phone on the net). I must be an old fogey at 38. I am old enough to remember payphones. I even had (up until now) a non-flip, green screened, black font only phone and think this is a HUGE advancement. Also, if you wonderful people looking for help would scroll through the messages, you will see that some very generous folks have spent time answering the "how to get wallpaper and ringtone" questions...more than a few times. I TOTALLY agree with you Lizzie...some people just don't know how GOOD they actually have it just being able to HAVE access to cell phones,.. pictures...ringtones...yeah, they are nice, but why DID they actually GET a cell phone? I wanted mine to use like a P~H~O~N~E DUH!? If all I wanted was to look at pics and play games, I could buy a picture book and gameboy! (At 38 I also can remember pay phones-when they only cost 10 cents to use...) LOL

And yeah, I agree.. I think the whole charge for screens and ringtones is a horrible act on Verizon's part, but what am I going to do about it? They are making money off of it, so they obviously arn't going to stop.

This phone is great. It is such an improvement from my old phone (only purchased two years ago) I think it is annoying about the wallpaper but really overall with the color and all of the features can you really complain. I am looking into that Gagin website. I don't really see how to work it but that is okay. I think this phone is user friendly and modern and awsome

You can download different wallpapers on the phone here's what you do ......First download Pictavision from your Get It Now progam .....then go online to www.dotphoto.com make a username and password by clicking join up ......then go to any sort of website you want on the internet and right click on any pictures you like then scroll to Save As ...and save to my documents or whatever now after you save it go back to www.dotphoto.com ....login and click on upload images .....you will then go ahead and click on BROWSE for each entry it will then bring up My documents or the folder you stored the pic in click on OPEN ....after you have entered in all of the pics just click on UPLOAD it will say successful and show the pics in your album after you Refresh the page .....then on your phone go to Get it Now .....then Pictavision and login then go to albums .....then my albums then hit okay on the pic address it will show the pic on your phone hit ok again it will give you the option to save as wallpaper......... save it then go back to you menu/settings/display/screens/ click the MORE soft key/ SELECT DOWNLOADED / then set it and it will show as wallpaper !!! *********THE PIC THAT YOU SAVE AND TRY TO UPLOAD MUST BE A JPG OR JPEG FILE TO UPLOAD SUCCESSFULLY ON DOTPHOTO.COM YOU CAN CONVERT GIF IMAGES TO JPG OR JPEG IMAGES BY OPENING THEM FROM YOUR PC FOLDER USING AN IMAGE FORMATTING PROGRAM AND SAVE IT TO YOUR FOLDER AGAIN AS A JPG OR JPEG FILE********

I was reading the comments on this board and I too have the 4400. I think it is a great little phone! The instructions for Pictavision are as follows:

1.Go to www.dotphoto.com and join a free account.
2.Upload your photos to your dotPhoto account. They must be .jpg files. More information on uploading can be found in the FAQS under 'How do I upload my images?'
3. Download Pictavision to your phone.
4. Start Pictavision.
5. Go to set login and enter your username and password for dotPhoto. Do not use the Member ID field. (a quickstart for the 4400 is at http://www.dotphotoinfo.com/lg4400qstart/lg4400qs.htm)
6. View, save to wallpaper, send an email invitation or store your pictures on your phone. Have fun!

I bought a LG VX10 phone and cannot find any websites that will allow me to download games or ringtone please e-mail me with some information.

This phone is off the hook!!! But PICTAVISION IS NOT FREE! it would all be so much easier if they gave i to u as a free trial like suome of the other applications.

Ok, I have figured out how to download the pics, but all the pics I download are crappy looking. Seems they're either out of focus, or made to fit the screen resulting in a photo that's out of whack.

You can get the phone out of lock mode by typing the last 4 digits of your phone number into the phone. You also most likely held down the "#" and not the "*" key.

Also does anyone know what the hell the answering machine feature does in the Voice Services Menu in the Settings? I just was trying to figure it out, but i really have no clue.

if you want to dl ringtones, wallpaper, games, etc, you need to go to RadioShack, or some other store and pick up a data cable. I know, it COSTS something, but nothing is free for this phone, so it's the best you can do.

after you get the cable, install bit-pim. it is a piece of software that allows you to connect to your phone. from there you can download files. the dl-ed files will be in the lower right drop-down box labelled "Downloaded" wallpaper, etc.

then, goto yahoo user groups and look up the phone. there are multiple groups there that will answer your questions and have dl-able files.

Well, after scrolling through this post and finding the 2 things that i need to continue enjoying my new LGVX4400, i am satisfied, as long as everything works out that is. Ive gone to http://bitpim.sourceforge.net and downloaded the program needed to upload stuff onto the phone, and ive also gone to http://www.brewbackups.com and downloaded a bunch of midi files for ringtones. Now all i need to do is go to radioshack and buy the cable and hopefully all should go well, ill post again if it all works out right. oh, and another site that can be used for uploading pics for new wallpapers in http://www.Snapfish.com, you even get 2 days free to try it out, before u download the app to your phone though, try making a photo album on the site first so u already have what u want to download to your phone and u dont waste time looking for the right photos. thats all, late.

I have the LG VX 4400. I was just curious what the conclusion was as to downloading color wallpaper on this phone. Is it only possible through GetIt Now? or is that even possible? I havent got a chance to use it (Im in extended area and it wont connect, although it should).

I just sat here for 30 minutes, reading all the postings and I think that most of the questions on here (manner mode and lock) can be answered by just reading the manual. It had both english and spanish, so read up. No ones too good or too technology-inclined to read the manual. It helps. Honest.

I have read all the comments posted on this site. I still had an OLD... OLD analog phone and got a good deal on my phone and a great monthly price. I have had my 4400 for about a month now and have had ALL my questions answered and solved by calling 611. Everyone at Verizon have been so nice. I was still in the cell phone stone age and am loving my phone and Verizon!

i have the LG4400 and i agree...one of the main things that bothers me is that you can't download new wallpapers/backgrounds...i would really like to know who decides which ones to put on the phone..because they suck! i also wanted to know if the 4400 is able to support Polyphonic Ringtones...Anyone Know?

Is anyone able to change the font color on the LG4400? I can't get it to work on either my phone or my husbands.

For the vibe and ring setting, do this:
-Open your phone up
-locate the up and down arrow buttons on the side of your phone and press one of them.
-If you go all the way up it will be vibe & ring. If you just go down one it will be the highest ring volume without the vibe.

For font color do this:
-Settings
-display
-Number font
-Color

I was wondering about a car charger too until I tried using the one I had for my previous LG TM510 by Verizon and what do you know it worked. So give it a try. It will save you some money.

Also I use to have a strong signal in the building where I work and now I keep seeing that 1X and my signal strength is only at 1 (is anyone else experiencing that). Can you change the phone to digital service if you are not using the Get It Now all the time.

1)YES YOU DO NEED THE CABLE to upload anything
get the vx-10 model, it has a serial converter box on the wire, the other one doesn't work well with bitpim.
2)resize your pics for the phone.. bitpim is good... but not foolproof
3)The manual isn't great.. Do a search or just read the forums.. its likely you'll find an answer.. i keep finding out new stuff about this phone everytime I look around.

"On Getting New Wallpaper for the LG 4400"
If you go on get it now, there is a program called Pictavison under the GET PIX category. Download the free demo of Pictavision. Then you can go to www.dotPhoto.com and you can set up a FREE account. There you can upload any picture you want. After you have uploaded pictures to an album, then go back to your phone. Go to the program pictavison and goto "Set Login" and set the login name and password that you registered on the website. You can just leave the Member ID blank. Then after you have entered these things, goto "My Albums" and you will be able to choose between your albums. Pick the one you want and then pick the wallpaper you want. After it has loaded click "ok" on your phone. Then click "Save to Wallpaper". After it says file saved, then you may exit Get It Now. Next, go to Menu, then settings, then display, and then screens. Now click on wallpaper and then there will be a list of all the wallpapers you can put as your backround. Yours will now be there because you have to press the "More" button on the bottom right of the screen. Then you need to go to downloaded and your wallpaper should be there. My old StarTac allowed me to switch to analog manually. Can I do the same with the 4400? Often the phone stays in digital with only one reception bar and I can't make a call.

Every othere kind of phone company you can just log onto the internet and download ringtones or wallpapers easily. With a better selection at that. New phone lgvx3200, changed lock code, have tried all possible combinations, how do I bypass lock code.

This phone is supposed to be a newer feature phone? It's a piece of **** Dosn't come with any games. You can't change the wallpaper. It says,coming soon on the website. Why not have the feature available when the product comes out?

No you can not get ring tones from other carriers, Verizon has a lot to choose from go to the web site at Get It Now and look at all of them. Sony, music box mod tones just a few, plus I have the games I wanted not the one that came with the older phones.

I have a VX4400 since Nov. 2003. I love the phone it was working great until Mid July after I moved to Florida. The problem started intermitently, I would get voice mail when I had the phone clipped on my belt. It did not ring or vibrate when someone would call. I would call voice mailers back normally a lot of times they would say I've called you many times and you don't answer. Well at first I thought it was the new area, I never had this problem New York. Eventually the phone no longer made any sounds, ie. keypad tones,ring the only way I knew a call was coming in was the red light would blink. If I answered I could not hear the caller but they could hear me. Then I noticed the dispaly "CAR KIT" on the LCD screen I could not find any reference to it in the instruction manual on how to turn it off. So I called Verizon Tech line and was told it was a software glitch and to take it into a Verizon service station which I did. After waiting for over an hour they told me there was no software glitch and I would have to leave it for service. The next day when I picked it up the technician told me it must have been dropped into water as it had liquid inside and that caused the problem. They said they dried it out and it worked but that my 1 year warranty was void. It worked for a couple of days and then back to " car kit " by the way it works fine if I plug my headset into it of course it doesen't ring so it's still rather useless. I when back to the service center and they would not help me, they insist it was wet or dropped in liquid. I have had that phone in it's leather case on my belt or clipped to my dashboard in my van it never got wet--- anyone know what I can do or who to call to get it fixed or replaced? Verizon has been no help.

Trying to locate a replacement manual for my parent's LG VX-4400. I went to the website someone suggested above, but that model did not appear to be available. Any help is appreciated.

how the hell can i get the unlock code? my friend found this phone and we cant get into in unless we give the lock code but we dont know it, we've tried everything...0000, 9999, even the last 4 digits of the phone number but nothing workss. HELPPPP!!!!!!!!

the phone is an LG VX6000!!!!

om my phone if u go to messages then my folder u can see small pix and large pix how come i cant use any of them they just kinda sit there. is there any way to use them?

i have a LG vx4500 and when i unlock it i can't seem to get the 4 digits down. how do i reset it so that it wouldn't be locked?

i just got the phone and set up my voicemail. Problem is i forget my password. Anyone know how i can figure it out?
