HP today launched a new line of Compaq Presario PCs, including a newly designed Presario S3000 desktop series and 2500 and 2100 notebook series. The notebooks include 802.11g (pre-g) wireless LAN capabilities, HP said.
The S3000 desktop series include high-capacity hard drives, and DVD or rewritable CD drives, the company said. The S3000 includes four new models – the S3000NX, the S3100NX, the S3200NX and the S3300NX. All the desktops include Norton Anti-Virus software (60 days of free updates), Windows XP Home with Microsoft Works, front and rear-access USB 2.0 ports, integrated 10/100 Ethernet and a 56K bit/sec. V.90 modem.
The S3000NX costs $449 (after $50 rebate), and includes an AMD Athlon XP 2000+ processor, 256M bytes of DDR RAM, a 40G-byte hard drive, 48x-speed CD-RW drive, 32M-byte graphics card (and open AGP slot). The S3000NX will be available online and at retailers on April 6, HP said.
The S3100NX costs $539 (after $50 rebate) and includes an AMD Athlon XP 2200+ processor, 256M-bytes of DDR RAM, an 80G-byte hard drive, CD-RW/DVD-ROM combination drive, 32M-byte graphics card, and an open AGP slot. The S3100NX is available now, HP says.
The S3200NX costs $619 (after $50 rebate), and includes an AMD Athlon XP 2400+ processor, 256M-bytes of DDR RAM, a 120G-byte hard drive, 48x-speed CD-RW drive, 16x-speed DVD-ROM drive, 32M-byte integrated graphics card and an open AGP slot. The S3200NX is available now, HP says.
Finally, the S3300NX costs $769 (after $50 rebate), and includes the AMD Athlon XP 2600+ processor, 512M-bytes of DDR RAM, a 120G-byte hard drive, 48x-speed CD-RW drive, and a 16x-speed DVD-ROM drive. It also includes a 128M-byte NVIDIA GeForce4 MX440 graphics card. The S3300NX will be available on April 6, HP says.
The new 2500 series notebooks include the integrated 802.11g (pre-standard) wireless connectivity (backward compatible with 802.11b). The wireless feature also supports 128-bit WEP encryption.
The Presario 2500 notebook includes an Intel Pentium 4 processor at speeds up to 2.8GHz. It has a 15-inch TFT display, an ATI Mobility Radeon integrated graphics card, and IEEE 1394 input. Pricing starts at $1,094 (after $100 rebate).
The Presario 2100 is 1.5-inches thin, weighs 6.7 lbs., and comes with an up to 15-inch display. The model also includes an ATI Mobility Radeon graphics card, and a range of Intel Celeron or Mobile Pentium 4-M processors. DDR RAM is available up to 1G-byte, and a Type I, II or III PC Card slot is available. Some models also include a IEEE 1394 port (aka FireWire). Pricing starts at $819 (after $100 rebate).
