Epson this week announced a photo printer that costs $199 and lets users print directly onto CDs and DVDs without an adhesive label. The new Epson Stylus Photo 900 is Epson’s second printer that has this capability. The printer can also print normal photos on Epson photo paper, the company said. To print onto a CD or DVD, users must purchase ink-jet printable CD-R or DVD-0R media – compatible media are produced by Imation, Maxell, Memorex, Mitsui, TDK and Verbatim.
The Stylus Photo 900 offers up to 5,760 by 720 dpi, and PRINT Image Matching (PIM) II and Exif Print support. This lets users print directly from PIM and Exif 2.2-enabled digital cameras, Epson says. Users can also print photos on Epson’s Borderless 4- by 6-, 5- by 7- and 8- by 10-inch photo papers with no borders to trim.
The printer connects via parallel or USB ports, and includes CD design and print software, Epson Software Film Factory, and PRINT Image Matching Plug-in (for Adobe Photoshop, and Elements 1.0 and 2.0). Users can optionally add a Bluetooth printer adapter or an external EpsonNet 802.11b wireless print server adapter. The printer will be available at the end of April, Epson says. This printer is a piece of crap. Time consuming unreliable crap. I wasted money.
