Network World Fusion, 05/22/03

XSVoice Inc. and AlertsUSA LLC this week announced a service that will send text alerts and wireless audio streaming messages to U.S. cell phone users. The AlertsUSA service sends instant text message (via SMS) of domestic terror alerts, warnings and other information provided by the Department of Homeland Security, Department of Justice, FBI, National Infrastructure Protection Center, State Department and other federal agencies, the companies said.

Customers can sign up here for six months of service at $29.99. A $1 donation from each subscription is given to the FBI Agents Association Memorial College Education Fund, XSVoice and AlertsUSA said.

In addition to the text alerts, users can receive live or on-demand audio broadcasts related to the alert (following the instant alert). A weekly audio update is also provided that summarizes the latest homeland security information. The companies said they are working on “geographically targeted Amber Alerts” to help notify users when a child has been abducted.
