Research in Motion (RIM) this week launched two new BlackBerry handheld devices that include a color screen and tri-band wireless features. Unfortunately for U.S. BlackBerry fans, the new devices were launched in Germany and Austria, from T-Mobile International.
The Java-based BlackBerry 7230 and 6230 devices support worldwide international roaming on GSM/GPRS networks, and include e-mail, a cell phone, Short Message Service (SMS) and personal information management (PIM) functions, RIM said. The 7230 includes a high-resolution color screen, while the 6230 includes a high-contrast monochrome screen.
The handhelds include the ability to support up to 10 corporate and personal e-mail accounts from one handheld, including ISP-based, Exchange, and Lotus Domino e-mail accounts. The new devices have support for roaming on 900, 1800 and 1900 MHz GSM/GPRS networks, giving users the ability to use one handheld while traveling, RIM said. The devices include 16M bytes of flash memory, and 2M bytes of SRAM, for data storage.
