Network World Fusion, 06/03/03

Research in Motion (RIM) this week launched two new BlackBerry handheld devices that include a color screen and tri-band wireless features. Unfortunately for U.S. BlackBerry fans, the new devices were launched in Germany and Austria, from T-Mobile International.

BlackBerry-7200.jpg.jpgThe Java-based BlackBerry 7230 and 6230 devices support worldwide international roaming on GSM/GPRS networks, and include e-mail, a cell phone, Short Message Service (SMS) and personal information management (PIM) functions, RIM said. The 7230 includes a high-resolution color screen, while the 6230 includes a high-contrast monochrome screen.

The handhelds include the ability to support up to 10 corporate and personal e-mail accounts from one handheld, including ISP-based, Exchange, and Lotus Domino e-mail accounts. The new devices have support for roaming on 900, 1800 and 1900 MHz GSM/GPRS networks, giving users the ability to use one handheld while traveling, RIM said. The devices include 16M bytes of flash memory, and 2M bytes of SRAM, for data storage.

For more information on the new handhelds, go to the RIM Web site or T-Mobile International’s site.
