Sony this week launched a new desktop that offers a 17.5-inch widescreen LCD display, an integrated DVD/CD-RW drive and the Sony Giga Pocket personal video recorder.
The VAIO W500GN1 (side view pictured) also has a folding keyboard that when closed, still lets the computer operate as a digital audio player. In addition, the keyboard can be folded in half for TV mode, which lets the monitor be used as a television. The PC comes with a PC card slot for wireless LAN connectivity, and a Memory Stick slot that supports both Memory Stick and Memory Stick PRO media. The PC also has four USB 2.0 ports and an i.LINK (IEEE 1394) port to connect other devices to the machine.
The W500GN1 will cost about $2,000 and is expected to begin shipping next month at retailers and Sony’s Web site.
