Toshiba recently launched two new notebooks, including an ultraportable notebook that includes a 1.8-inch, 40G-byte hard disk drive and integrated wireless connectivity.
The Portege R100 series (pictured) includes Intel Centrino technology, a Pentium 4 M processor (1GHz), and weighs about 2.4 pounds, Toshiba said. It has a 12.1-inch TFT display (1,024 by 768 resolution), 256M bytes of SDRAM, integrated V.92 modem, 10/100 Ethernet port, optional dual Wi-Fi (802.11a and b) wireless connectivity, one Type II PC Card slot and two USB 2.0 ports. The notebook measures 11.3- by 9- by 0.6/0.75-inches, and has battery life of about two hours (with standard battery), and up to 6.5 hours with the secondary battery. The R100 is available at Toshiba’s online Web store (www.shoptoshiba.com) and starts at $2,299.
The M100 series expands on the R100 series by adding a full-size keyboard, optical drive and higher processor speeds. The M100 comes with a Pentium M processor at 1.2GHz, a 40G-byte hard drive, 256M bytes of SDRAM, a 12-1-inch TFT screen, a Slim SelectBay DVD-ROM drive, integrated V.92 modem, integrated 10/100 Ethernet port, two USB 2.0 ports, and up to 8.3 hours of battery life with the optional second battery. The M100 series weighs 4.4 pounds, and starts at $2,199. This notebook is also available at the Toshiba Web store.
