Network World Fusion, 08/26/03

Toshiba’s Storage Device Division (SDD) today launched two slim optical disk drives for notebooks that include DVD recording capabilities.

Slim DVDR-RW Combo.jpgThe SD-R6112 slim DVD recordable drive includes 2x-speed DVD recording, and the SD-R9012 super slim CD-RW/DVD-ROM combination drive includes 16x-speed CD recording speeds in a smaller format. The drives are aimed at computer manufacturers to add to their new notebooks.

The R6112 also supports 1x-speed DVD-RW, 1x-speed DVD RAM (read), 16x-speed CD-R and 10x-speed CD-RW capabilities. The R9012 also supports 8x-speed DVD-ROM, 16x-speed CD-R and 10x-speed CD-RW, Toshiba said. The drives will be available to manufacturers in late August. For more information, go to Toshiba’s SDD Web site.

Hi, I would like to know if you could help me out here:

I have the Toshiba DVD-Rom SD-R6112, and I am having some problems with some DVD's doing back-up my dvd films, I had tried diferent ones (Bulkpaq yellow, green, orange and Datasafe Media).
With the yellow ones I could not copy at all, the greens I had to throw away some of them for stopping copying just after started, the same with the orange ones.
With Datasafe (much more expensives) I can copy well, but some of them do not play in my laptop and they can be played in my dvd player for the TV, and with other is viceversa.

I heard about patches for the drivers, than maybe could fix my problems, but I did not find anything. Could you tell me how to fix my problems and with blanks dvd are compatible with my toshiba.

Thanks a lot. JC
