Network World Fusion, 08/28/03

Symantec this week launched software that aims to protect Palm and Pocket PC devices from viruses, worms and other malicious code. The Symantec AntiVirus for Handhelds product includes different consumer and enterprise versions, and will provide both real-time and on-demand scanning of files.

The software will also include LiveUpdate Wireless, a service that lets users with wireless Internet connections to download virus definitions and product updates directly to the device over the air, Symantec said. The initial software will install on a user’s desktop, and be transferred via cradle synchronization.

The Annual Service Edition of the product will be available in early September, and will cost $39.95. When the subscription period ends and virus protection ends, users can renew the subscription to the service for $19.95. The corporate editions of the software will be available at the end of this month as a license to enterprise customers, Symantec said.
