Canon this week announced its new i860 Desktop Photo Printer, which can print up to 4,800 by 1,200 dpi color prints, at speeds up to 23 pages per minute in black text and up to 16 ppm in color. The $149.99 printer will be available in mid-September, Canon said.
The i860 is the successor to the i850 printer, Canon said. The new printer includes a five-color ink system called ContrastPLUS, which features a dye-based photo-grade black ink tank for photo printing, and a pigment-based black ink tank for black text, the company added.
The printer also includes PictBridge technology, which lets users connect a PictBridge-enabled digital camera directly to the printer for printing photos without having to use a photo. The printer can support 4- by 6-inch photo paper, as well as 8.5- by 11-inch paper, or 5- by 7-inch paper. The printer supports both Windows and Macintosh computers (Windows 95 or higher, and Mac OS 8.6 to 9.x and OS X v 10.2.1 to 10.2.x), and comes with PhotoRecord (Windows), Zoom Browser EX (Windows) and ImageBrowser (Mac) software. PhotoStitch software (both platrorms) can make composite images from shots taken separately.
Compatible with both Windows® and Mac platforms (Windows XP, Windows 2000/ Millennium Edition/98/95/NT 4.0 and Mac OS (8.6 to 9.x) and Mac OS X v 10.2.1 to 10.2.x.), the i860 Desktop Photo Printer also includes the PhotoRecord† (Windows), Zoom Browser EX† (Windows) and ImageBrowser† (Mac) image management software, and PhotoStitch† (Windows and Mac) that makes composite images from shots taken separately. Canon also announced four other photo printers, the $249.99 i900D, the $199.99 i960, the $129.99 i475D model and the $79.99 i455 model.
