Network World Fusion, 09/19/03

Explaining your company’s new technology in front of 410 people in six minutes is a pretty daunting task. The more complicated your technology, the tougher it can be to relate this during an early morning session.

But a few companies demonstrating early Friday were able to do this by injecting some humor into their demos and left a lasting impression. Including:

  • Microwave Photonics, which was explaining its new system for re-configuring wide-area wireless networks (their product separates the base station from the cell phone antenna). The company started their demo by showing a fake commercial with a cell phone guy following around customers with a giant signal booster. During the actual demo, the cell phone guy was seen following people around the audience with the same booster.

  • Bitfone, which I already mentioned in an earlier posting, conducted a very funny demo with a kids-show theme to help explain their over-the-air firmware upgrade system and device management system. The demo included a cue-card holder to signal the audience to respond, as well as a guitar-playing leader who directed the “kids” in the audience in a song about the Bitfone PRISM system. Very cute, and a very catching song.
